The short version
Tic-tac-toe, except every square hides a trivia question. Answer it right and the square is yours. Three in a row wins; a full board with no line is a draw. A coin toss decides who goes first.
A turn
- Pick any open square. Its question opens with four options.
- Right: the square is yours, marked X or O.
- Wrong: the square stays open and the turn passes.
Nobody learns the right answer
When someone answers wrong, the game marks their pick as wrong and never shows which option was right. If it did, the other team would take that square next and read the answer straight off the screen.
So a missed square isn’t a free square. It’s a square everyone now knows is hard, with one option already ruled out.
Every board is balanced
Each game deals nine questions from your chosen category: three easy, four medium and two hard, shuffled so difficulty has nothing to do with position. The centre square isn’t always the hard one, and neither is any corner.

The centre is in three more winning lines than an edge. Corners set up forks. A question you’re sure of in the wrong square is worth less than a question you’re fairly sure of in the right one.
Block first, even with a hard question
If they have two in a row, the third square is the only question on the board that matters. Take it on, even if it looks hard.
Use the misses
A square someone just missed has one wrong option you now know about. That’s a better shot than it was a turn ago.
